  It's official: Yahoo and Microsoft have announced Wednesday, July 29, a pack that will last for 10 years. Under the deal, Microsoft will power yahoo search. In turn, Yahoo will act like a sale force for Microsoft's premium properties.

Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz was quoted as saying that the deal will add "boatloads of values for users and the industry." Industry experts believe the deal will trigger innovation and bring more value to advertisers and web users.

Microsoft's CEO Steve Ballmer also believes the deal gives Bing the chance to compete with Google search. In a blog post, Bartz is quoted as saying: "You'll find search boxes all across Yahoo!, but this deal will make the difference between a great Yahoo search experience and an awesome one."

Google commands 70% of the search market. With this deal, Yahoo and Microsoft would be able to compete with Google in search. It's expected that the deal will fully end anytime right to 2010. Three to six months after the deal closes, Yahoo is expected to transition to Bing search. Other migration will be from panama ad system to Microsoft's Adcenter, which will trigger in 12 months time, after the close of the deal.

The deal is for 10 years.Microsoft will license Yahoo's core search technologies for 10 years.Bing is the 'exclusive algorithmic search and paid search platform for Yahoo sites'.Yahoo is the worldwide sales force for both companies. Self-serve and search advertising will be built on Microsoft's AdCenter platform.Yahoo will own the user experience on its properties. Microsoft will pay traffic acquisition costs to Yahoo at a rate of 88 percent of search revenue on Yahoo sites for the first five years. Yahoo will continue its search affiliate partnerships. On a conference call, Ballmer said: "We paid a high TAC rate. There is no question." He added that the upside comes as Microsoft improves relevance due to more scale. "Our upside comes as execution really builds," he said."Some Yahoo engineers may move to Microsoft," said Ballmer.Microsoft guarantees Yahoo's owned and operated revenue per search in each country for 18 months.After 5 years, Microsoft can retake premium ad sales back from Yahoo.The implementation will occur within 2 years after regulatory approval.Web site and all contents ? This same set of botnet masters are widely believed to be the same group of persons who launched a Chase phishing campaign, and another one themed 'Who Killed Michael Jackson?' as well as one pretty successful phishing campaign impersonating the United Services Automobile Association not long ago.

HP Slate: Microsoft Fights Back

Regardless of what type of market you look at, very few times will you ever actually see a true monopoly dominating a niche. The technology companies are certainly no different. What we have seen so far though is that Apple has introduced the iPad, a first of its kind. It is a hybrid device somewhere between a phone and a laptop, but people obviously love the device right now. Apple fanatics have waited in ridiculously long lines just for an opportunity to pay $499 for the device. It is obvious, there is a market for this product out there and Microsoft has caught wind of it. Why let Apple be the only one in the market? Well, they will not be for long!

I guess Microsoft does not want to see their employees carrying around Apple products so they have announced the HP Slate. It is clear to me that they have made this product to compete directly with the iPad. You know what? I think this might be a break-through product for Microsoft. Below I have three main reasons why I think this is going to be successful for them.

#1: Ports Galore

One of the primary reasons why there have been even some Apple fans that opted not to purchase the iPad is because of their lack of ports. I think many people were viewing this as a true hybrid between phone and laptop. How can you even come close to the laptop feel without ports? I personally did not have too much of a problem with it, but do admit that it would have been nice to be able to use jump drives and things like this to work with my iPad. Microsoft on the other hand included at least one USB port for the HP Slate.

Another port they added that I found interesting was the HDMI port. This adds a new element to the device. Not only is it a laptop, but it could act as a portable monitor / television for long road trips for gaming and movies. This sounds like a good thing for sure! Another thing is that you could hook it directly up to your television, allowing for super-high quality video off of your HP Slate.

#2: Better Hardware

Obviously, this device will take some time to manufacturer and with technology only increasing, I think it was important to Microsoft to have something slightly faster than Apple for once. The HP Slate features good specs, a faster processor (1.66 GHz), better video, and probably more memory are just a few things that Microsoft are bringing to the table. I say probably on the memory simply because Apple has not disclosed the amount of RAM inside of the iPad. The 1GB in the HP Slate though is very good for such a device. I am guessing that this is superior to that of the iPad.

#3: Camera Included

The iPad is missing a camera. I guess since I have an iPhone too it doesn't seem like something I would miss. However, there have already been times where I have had my iPad out and it would have been more convenient to take pictures with it than with my iPhone. Microsoft realized that this was just another benefit to the HP Slate versus the iPad. We will see how the people like it once it is released. However, I think Microsoft is on to something!

  A Texas-based company, Tsera LLC, has filed a lawsuit in a US district court accusing Microsoft and twenty other companies of violating its patent right on touchpad technology. Tsera LLC alleged that it has the patent right with US patent number 6,639,584 called Methods and Apparatus for Controlling a Portable Electronic Device using Touchpad dated 2003.

Aside Microsoft, other companies accused of infringing on the patent right are Apple, LG Electronics, Philip Electronics, River Inc, and a host of others. Apple is in the suit filed by Tsera LLC for major patent right infringement for its portable sensitive surface devices ? iPods. Other defendants in the suit are for standard patent right infringement. LG make the list for its lovely and sleeker looking Chocolate VX8500 cellular phone. Microsoft went against the law, according to the lawsuit with the Zune digital media player.

Tsera LLC is seeking for greater damage against Apple for willfully violating the patent right even when the infringement was brought to its notice couple of years back. No doubt, Apple has been the greatest beneficiary of this technology in terms of iPod sales.

If all went well with the lawsuit, this little known Texas-based company may be smiling to the bank at the end of the legal battle. What a 'semi-active way' to make big money!

Meanwhile, none of the defendants in the suit has publicly denied the claim. However, a vital question still remains unanswered is, why wait all these years?

  The EU anti-trust problem with Microsoft has spiraled to a settlement at last. This is according to a statement made Wednesday by the EU Commission. Under the settlement deal, Microsoft will offer a choice screen of five browsers (Firefox, Opera, Google, Internet Explorer and Safari) to users to make their choice as to which they will like to install instead of bundling Windows and Internet Explorers together. PC Vendors are to disable Internet Explorer completely.

Microsoft is to report every 6 months to the European antitrust commission about the settlement and the disclosure of its interoperability plan. The settlement is expected to encourage web browser companies to innovate.
